Hot Takes and Orchard's Crosshatch. February 2, 2025. Mostly Skateboarding Podcast.
This week, Jason From Frozen In Carbonite, Patrick Kigongo, and Mike Munzenrider are throwing out some hot takes and watching Orchard Skateshop's Crosshatch video. Listen here and subscribe on iTunes or Spotify.
Mike is stoked on biking in 50 degree weather in late January in Minneapolis and that Cyrus backtail, long and flat.
Patrick is stoked on Spitfire Wheels, the new issue of Thrasher, Krooked Up the Coast, Pink Floyd’s The Wall, the collected writings of Henry Rollins, BLACKOUT TRY, and the New balance Tom Knox shoe.
Jason is stoked on Venture Trucks, the Cyrus part, Ross Norman/Mike Rosa's part, and RIP John Sykes

I've been saying there's too much footage for years now. I think we have to move beyond that to a solution to the problem, except I have no earthly idea what the fix is.
I like to watch skateboarding, but every interview is like "We've got a crew and we're stacking clips for a VX video". I mean this is what people should be doing, filming with their homies to document their younger days to look back on in the future, but it feels so drainingly repetitive.
Sure, keep the VX going. Once we get a good item of technology, keep that thing going. We can make anything we want these days so nothing should be phased out. Apple should still be making iPods.
My hot take | parallel:
Skateboarding > SOTY season
College basketball > March Madness
The knock against Foy was that he won it before. His skating was easily better than when he won for 2017. In all honesty, he probably didn't deserve it the first time around more than anything. 2024 was his year.
The Orchard video was OK. It had a few too many EDGLRD boards and switch ollies in it. I did like that there was snow in the background for a bunch of tricks. The 5Boro video was better, if I had to pick one or the other.
