The Botany Of Desire

It's been a while since I posted any non-skate stuff here, so here is something I'm pretty excited about. I'm a big Michael Pollen fan, so I'm psyched that his book The Botany Of Desire has been made into a two hour PBS documentary premiering October 28th on PBS. Click here to check the trailer and find out when it is playing in your area.

Collection

My parents brought all my old skate videos and magazines up to my new house and I was stoked to finally have them with me. Click on the images to see them really big. While going through my old magazines I found the first and only two issues of Journal, the short lived east coast magazine and a couple of old Alien Workshop zines. Also on the shelf are some old zines from old friend and Berrics contributor Dallas Clayton and others.

Home

The French photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand, the man behind the Earth From Above series just released his first film entitled Home. It is available on Youtube starting today and looks to be a visually stunning film detailing the human impact on the Earth. Scroll down for your regularly scheduled skate clip.

Advertisers..?

I've been out of work for a few months now, and while this gives me more time to skate and hang with bros, I still need money to put gas in my car and get food to eat. Instead of putting some ugly adsense on my blog that no one is going to click on, I figured someone out there might be interested in buying some advertising space. If you or your company wants to advertise on MostlySkateboarding, hit me up and we'll work something out. E-mail me at modest2929@yahoo.com.

Looking for work

I just got word today that my company is going out of business. The good news is that I was pretty unhappy at my job, the bad news is this is where I found the time to do all my blogging. If any of you guys know of jobs freelance or full time that a filmer/writer/blogger/skater might be good for, let me know. Thanks. Sincerely, Templeton Elliott

New Mash Trailer and Site

I kind of feel like a poser when I link to Mash, since I ride a geared bike, but this shit still gets me stoked to ride. The new trailer is kind of a re-cut of the old trailer with some new footage. Music by The Mall.

Manufactured Landscapes

Tonight at the Naro Cinema, Manufactured Landscapes is playing at 7:15. This will be your only opportunity to see this film on the big screen in this area. I highly recommend everyone checks it out at the Naro, on video, or in your area. The documentary is about photographer Edward Burtynsky and his projects to document how man kind has effected our landscape. Check the trailer, plus there are plenty of other goodies on his website.

Free Mini Ramp in Norfolk

Somebody in Norfolk should take this 3' Mini Ramp offered up on Craigslist. I just stumbled upon this so I can't vouch for the awesomeness of this ramp, but it's worth a look. Whoever gets it better invite me over for a session.

Brother Reade Kills It

Last night's Brother Reade show was off the hook. For all those who missed it go buy their album and use one of the songs in your next video part. Thanks to everyone who came out to The Boot and big thanks to Brother Reade for coming all the way out to Norfolk to play one of the best shows I've seen in a long time to a small crowd of well informed people.

Darfur

By now we all should know that the situation in Darfur is pretty gnarly. Good Magazine made a nice little breakdown of what has been going on there. You can check out SaveDarfur.org to see what you can do. Also, check out DarfurScores.org to see how your representatives have been voting on this issue. Sorry for bumming everyone out. back to skateboarding in the next post.

Am I Bart Simpson?

Checking my stats this morning I noticed Blog Grrl was sending a few people my way so I checked her out and discovered her post If The Simpsons Had Blogs. She thinks that Bart would write MostlySkateboarding.

This American Life Animation

Here is another segment from the upcoming This American Life TV Show. This one is animated by Chris Ware. Via: Coudal. If you haven't already check out this past week's episode of TAL. It's one of the better ones I have heard in a long time.

This American Life on TV

I'm guessing a lot of you have never heard of This American Life. It's probably the best thing on radio. I highly recomend subscribing to their podcast or streaming a few shows from their archives. Anyway, they are making a TV show for Showtime and here is the trailer.

Chris Cole Bump Footy

Chris Cole is just plain gnarly. Check this little clip of him skating a bump in New Jersey. What's that first trick? A nose scrape? All the kids will be doing this one in the coming months.
