I never realized Stevie was wearing Air Maxes in that photo. I thought they were some puffy DCs. Does it even matter what Nike does? No matter how poor of a job they do, everybody still buys.

I think skateboarding needs a good balance between new and old. When it went all in on the youth, it was the worst era ever with small wheels, pressure flips, and big pants. I prefer when the new kids grow up a little bit and figure out their personalities. It's better than going by the whims of 14-16 year olds. Nobody really complains much about older athletes competing against younger ones in basketball or baseball. Give Reynolds or Hsu their props, but also focus on the younger skaters who are starting to define themselves.

The biggest problem with nostalgia is the ease of access to old media. In the early 2000s, if I was talking about the first Real video or Memory Screen, there was no easy way to revisit the videos unless you had a physical copy. Same for music. How many bands did you read about, but could never find a record for? Nowadays, you can at the least pull up a couple songs on YouTube or Bandcamp to get an idea of what they sound like. This is a great teaching tool that has its obvious drawbacks.

Horsegirl is a good band, but not that's not their best song. Girl used one of their little filler tracks in the pro part for Rowan Davis in 2023, so I guess there is some degree of music continuity.

I didn't know the Joy Machine guy actually made the 'zine happen. He messaged me a long time ago and I sent him a bunch of scans, plus a timeline, but never heard anything back. Good to know he's out there and still working on the project.
