It's interesting how Thrasher pushed junk jam type events in 1992/93 as the future of skate contests. Given how small skateboarding was, nobody had the vision that the Extreme Games and Street League would happen, especially after having all those big vert contests in the 1980s fizzle out.

Thrasher has done a lot of one off, more fun oriented contests over the years, although with some very serious ripping at times. Did Transworld do anything comparable? I don't recall any.

The old contest stories were such events with lifestyle details and exciting gossip. I suppose the contest circuit has gotten so much more organized and mundane as to eliminate the need for that type of skate journalism. Not even sure I'd want to read about it any more, but those were fun stories to read back in the day.

I liked the Leap Year video. I think I found it from Quartersnacks Top Ten and wanted to check it out based on the music. I shared the video with a friend who plays in a modern emo band (Del Paxton) and he was stoked on the Marietta. Now that I think about it, the Midwest emo revival has been going for roughly 15 years so maybe it isn't a revival, it's just remained a small niche scene.
