Northside Progress

Lots of progress is being made at Northside. It all seems a bit tight to me right now, maybe when it's all finished I'll feel differently. It's coming out pretty close to the original plans accept there is a silly hump where a smaller set of stairs and rail was originally planned.

Hampton Roads Skatepark News

I went up to Northside today to check on the progress. The tranny for the bowls has been poured plus a few more street elements. The Grindline guys should have about five more weeks of work to go before they hand it over to the other contractor. I'm not sure if that means it will be skatable in five weeks or what. I know the city will want to do some landscaping before opening officially.

In other skatepark news, Suffolk just received a $10,000 grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation for their two planned parks. One park is supposed to be a cement plaza style park while the other is going to be a modular park on a slab. The Tony Hawk Foundation is trying to talk Suffolk out of building some shitty pre-fab bullshit. If you live in Suffolk, I suggest you get in touch with parks and rec and let them know how you feel. Be polite about it and thank them for building a park.

It appears Team Pain just built an indoor park in Hampton called Mekos. From the video it looks pretty legit.

Safari Park Montage

Safari's new park montage makes me want to go hike in the Alps more than it makes me want to go skate. That said, it's still a good montage...

Anthony Grant at P-Rod Park

I don't usually post park footage but this Anthony Grant park video is pretty impressive. On a side note, LA is killing the skate plaza game. I moved away way too soon.

Seems like people wanted to know where this park is from an earlier post. Turns out it is a brand new park in Ontario, Canada called Ashbridges Bay. It opens on October 3rd.

Canadian Plaza Montage

I used to get bummed on park footage, but now all these rad skate plazas are popping up and they look so fun. Here is a montage from a new looking Canadian park from Blue Tile Lounge.

Woodward Montage

I know a Woodward montage doesn't sound too interesting, but their new street plaza looks so fun, and Timmy Knuth's ender is bonkers. from Chronicles of Hern. Sorry for park footage two days in a row...

German Park Session

This German park looks pretty sick and the dudes from Edit Skateboards handle it quite well especially Dennis Glaser's nollie flip shifty.

Push at the Beach

The guys at Push Skateshop came down from the mountain and spent some time on coastal North Carolina hitting up plenty of sick parks and that one park by the airport that I find almost unskatable. Those dudes handled it though. This montage makes me want to plan a little road trip this fall.

Anti Gravity is Good

After trashing Skate High pretty hard a while back I felt like I should say that Anti-Gravity in Newport News, VA is awesome. The course is layer out really well with plenty of room. Everything is built really well. Skate High should hire whoever did this park to redesign theirs. The park is a bit slippery, but I got used to it after a while. For the 7-10PM session you don't even have to wear a helmet. MostlySkateboarding gives Anti-Gravity a resounding endorsement. Check the Dominion dudes killing it at Anti-Gravity.

The Majestic Seagull has the first footage I've seen from the new Ed Benedict skate park in Oregon. That place looks pretty amazing.

Currituck Park Planning

Currituck's existing skatepark is getting torn down to make room for airport expansion so they are going to be building two new parks in it's place. There will be two design meetings coming up the first on Monday Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Knotts Island Ruritan building, the second at the Powells Point Senior Center Monday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. Local skaters get out there and make sure they build some good parks instead of somethign shitty like the one they have now. I got this infor from this article.
