The Etnies video was nice. Reading the Thrasher article about the video a few times before seeing it was really helpful. It gave me an idea of who was in the video and what to expect for tricks. If anything it made the video more memorable by having two points of reference. There were a lot of Sal's in that video. It might be the one model that doesn't invoke late 90s/early 00s mall culture, although truthfully, most of the shoes look decent enough.
I think getting Andy out of the Powell Peralta world is a good thing. You remember the unique freestyle tricks, but forget when he does regular tricks properly. Whatever shoes he was wearing looked cool. It also looks like they discontinued his pro model with the lace savers.
Etnies reinventing itself a little can't hurt. Didn't they give Mostly some free shoes?
Standard was the truck line out of Acme. A lot of the Powell team was on their team, but who knows if they actually rode them.
RIP Sole Tech. Long live Sole Tech.
