Jason is stoked on Venture Trucks, Washington Wizards #1 draft pick AJ Dybantsa, House of the Dragon back on HBO, and Mikel Vidal's Hélas part.
Templeton is stoked on putting his uncle’s old lenses on his modern camera with this lens converter.
Listening to the pod this morning, as has become part of my Sunday morning routine, pre skate session. Templeton, the photo you mention - of the skater grinding coping while chugging a beer, that’ photo is of now pastor Jay Haizlip aka Jay Alabamy. He has been associated with Hosoi and some other notable, SoCal Christian skaters. Could be a really interesting future convo for the pod about who uses skating to push a religious agenda or to promote their beliefs.
ReplyDeleteUnrelated, but I still keep all my print skate mags. I have maybe the biggest collection in PA. Every Thrasher from about 2003 on and scattered ones going back to when I started skating -1992-991, all of my Skateboarders, almost every The Skateboard Mag and hella TWS.
Keep up the great pod; I always listen and enjoy it.
I can't believe you forgot Plank. There's the recent Transworld Photo Annual, too. They said they might make more print issues. I have such a complex opinion on having more stuff right now.
ReplyDeleteI got Dan Rusin's new Into The Void video. It's just a DVD in a cardboard sleeve that costs $15.00. I'm way more stoked on having a plain object than watching it online, which I doubt I'll ever do. I've watched the DVD once already. I think more companies should do DVDs like that because it has to be a reasonably good profit margin, like how bands still make money from CDs. You don't have to worry about something disappearing from the internet or getting changed over music rights. I'm not opposed to fully flared DVDs, but I realize I seldom end up looking at the bonus photo book. How many times have you watched Mindfield vs. how many times have you flipped through the photos that come with it?
The Vert Is Dead archive only takes up two bookcases for 39 years worth of mags, plus one small credenza for a ton of videos on VHS and DVD. It's a lot, but not too crazy. I did get rid of some Transworlds, Skateboard Mags, and Slaps from 2006-2008. I'm a little bummed I tossed the Slaps. I kept all the Thrashers and Skateboarders. Today we have the option to donate to the Look Back Library.
Somehow there is a lot of stuff not online or that has disappeared from being online. It's very weird. I found some Marc Johnson Maple ads from Transworld that had yet to be scanned, which in 2026 is absurd.
Walmart has CD players for $35.00.
The Mike Carroll reissue was in summer/fall 2020. I think Lakai is going to be fully out of business so no more zombie shoes. Is Tactics done?
Louie is the exact age I had him pegged to be. He had a Slap checkout that actually listed his age in the middle 1990s, but it's not online as far as I know. I'm doing my part to keep the joke about his age going. Jack Springer's skating was pleasant, but he's nothing like Louie. Lou is classically trained whereas Springer is modern skateboarding.
